For over 25 years, Matthew has taught at many colleges and universities. He believes that, in order to progress, every student needs a structured approach, expert feedback, and thoughtful support.

“I've been very lucky to have had many great guitar instructors over the years. Matt easily tops this list. It goes without saying that he is an incredible player and musician. His resume speaks for itself. As a teacher, Matt is knowledgeable, prepared, patient, and dedicated to my development as a player. While I take joy in being guided by his approach to the instrument, I in no way feel as though my voice and vision as a musician is being usurped by his own. As a longtime player, I have never felt more inspired to grow and improve on the instrument, and Matt has had a lot to do to get me to this place.”

- Jeff Schroeder, former member of The Smashing Pumpkins

“As a guitar educator, Matt strikes the perfect balance of acting as a musical guide for a student while allowing room for self-actualization, creativity, and musical exploration. His strengths as a teacher are in his attention to detail, attentive listening, practical solution making, and knowledge of all things guitar.”

- Dylan Abernathy, student, Cal State University and Arizona State University
